The Year Ahead: Transformation for the City

Knoxville voters will select a new mayor and four new Council members, but other changes will also help reshape the city in the future.

During 2019, the City of Knoxville will undergo a transformation.
Knoxvillians will elect a new mayor and four members of City Council. A completely rewritten zoning code will shape development inside the city limits. The city’s public safety arm -- the police and fire departments, plus Municipal Court -- likely will be making plans to move into a new headquarters.
2019 will begin with a new zoning code and end with new leadership at the helm.
And those are just the developments that are in the works as 2019 dawns. Unforeseen changes occur every year, and 2019 certainly will be no different.
