In the far reaches of East Knox County, Precinct 87 consists of rolling farmland and, well, more rolling farmland. In the near future, however, it will be home to the county’s newest business center, Midway Business Park.
The precinct is overwhelmingly Republican, with GOP candidates routinely snagging 70 to 80 percent of the vote.
The protracted struggle over the development of the business park centered on its effect on this rural area. Despite having an interstate slashing through the precinct, the residents enjoy a relatively bucolic existence in the state’s third largest urban county.
