Editor's Note: This week's winter landscapes have given us snow-covered tableaus that we rarely see in East Tennessee. Some of our favorites are by local photographer Bill Foster, who took an evening walk Downtown during Monday's storm from his home in North Knoxville. Here are a few words from him, and some of the pictures he took.
I love Knoxville in the snow. The light here when it reflects off the ground is truly special. I especially enjoy the light at night in Market Square, which is difficult to shoot normally, but the snow makes it just right.
Monday, I took a two and a half mile walk from my home off Central to Market Square. It was snowing hard, which made the photography difficult, but it was exquisite. I've always wanted good shots of the 4-5 lovely churches along the way and the Corner Lounge looked straight out of a Hopper painting.
Once I got closer to town, the decorated street lights and decorations were made for a telephoto lens. Gay Street was beautiful. Of course, the best thing about Knoxville and the reason I walk downtown is the people. There weren't a lot of folks around, but there were some and outdoor portraits in the Square will never stop being fun.
