Crews working on the city’s project to overhaul North Central Street ran into some unexpected problems, officials say, leading to an increase in expenditures.
The northern artery gets a makeover similar to Cumberland and Magnolia.
This evening City Council will consider bumping up the contract for the streetwork by roughly $217,000. If the change order is approved, the revised contract with Southern Constructors Inc. will rise to $4.956 million. Overall, the project’s tab will exceed $6.3 million.
Anne Wallace, the city’s deputy director of redevelopment, said crews ran into unexpectedly thick pavement, among other issues. “We ran into more rock than we anticipated,” she said.
