The city of Knoxville’s Cumberland Avenue reconfiguration has been recognized as an outstanding project by the Tennessee chapter of the American Planning Association.

While the Cumberland Avenue Merchants Association isn’t passing out any trophies, its leaders are pleased with the project now that it’s completed. The work snarled traffic at the edge of the University of Tennessee campus for longer than two years and inspired a Cumberland Avenue business owner to run for mayor.
