Jack McElroy is retiring as executive editor at the News Sentinel after 17 years at the helm of Knoxville’s daily newspaper and 43 years as a journalist.
McElroy’s tenure coincided with the industry-wide decline in print readership and advertising revenues.
“I’ve been very blessed to have had the opportunity to spend a career in this dynamic business,” McElroy said in a story published Friday on knoxnews.com. “I’ve met fascinating people, worked with dedicated colleagues, observed the amazing drama of life in our communities and, I hope, done a little good.”
